Public support for companies: Up to 30 billion to help cover energy costs

PrintMailRate-it

UPDATE: The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade has published a subsidy programme to compensate high energy prices in enterprises. It has been affirmed that any (manufacturing or agricultural) enterprise whose electricity or gas bills are at least two times higher in 2022 compared to 2021 will be eligible for the subsidy. The subsidy will make up 30-70 % of eligible expenditure, depending on the sector and the current economic situation. Please contact us to clarify the terms and conditions pertaining to your company.

The Czech Government approved a support programme of up to CZK 30 billion for companies to help cover the outrageous costs of natural gas and electricity. The decision was made on 14 September 2022.

Please read on to find out more about current public support options that can help you and your company reduce unplanned high energy costs.

The programme mainly targets businesses with higher consumption (high or very high voltage electric power supply or a natural gas consumption of more than 630 MWh per year). The Government will help businesses with lower consumption by capping electricity and gas prices.

Companies operating in agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining and manufacturing will be eligible for support.

Companies will be able to apply depending on whether they are energy-intensive businesses, i.e. businesses whose energy costs exceed 3 percent of the value of their production.

Energy-intensive businesses will be entitled to up to CZK 200 million; others up to CZK 45 million.

Companies that can prove that they are making an operating loss, with at least half of that loss being due to energy costs, will be able to request aid for energy-intensive businesses. These businesses will then be eligible for support amounting to 50 percent of eligible costs. In some sectors, support may amount up to 70 percent of eligible costs.

Other businesses will be eligible for aid if their energy costs go up by at least twice as much. Costs from 1 February to 31 December 2022 will be compared to the average energy costs in 2021.
